GYCC Speed League Round 1 Race Report
The opening round of the GYCC Speed League saw 16 riders take on the course in tough conditions, with a strong wind that never seemed to blow in the direction anyone wanted.
Despite the challenging evening, there were some impressive performances across every category. Mark Richards set the fastest average speed of the night, recording 27.95mph to win the TT category and achieve the Carbon Fibre level. Toby Barnes took second in the category at 25.09mph, while Chris Thornton completed the TT podium with 23.31mph.
Peter Aldred led the Club category with an average of 22.90mph, ahead of Jordan McWilton and Tom Moore. Gavin Stock was the leading Novice rider, achieving an impressive 19.92mph, while Catherine Lee won the women’s Club category and reached the Alloy average speed level with 17.95mph.
It was brilliant to see so many riders achieving average speed levels and collecting valuable points in the first round. The challenge now becomes even greater, as riders will need to push themselves to move up another level and continue adding those bonus points throughout the league.
A tough but fantastic opening night. Thank you to every rider, volunteer and supporter who helped get the new Speed League underway. Round Two promises to be another exciting evening of racing.
