GYCC Speed League Goes Down to the Wire
What a way to finish this year’s GYCC Speed League!
Seven riders went into the final round still mathematically capable of winning the overall title, with every point and every performance making a difference. After six rounds of racing, the overall league victory was decided by just eight points.
Several category competitions were even closer. Countback was needed to determine the Men’s Club and Men’s Novice category titles, as well as the Women’s Club category title, reflecting just how competitive the league has been from beginning to end.

Across the six rounds, 49 different riders took part, which we are absolutely thrilled with. From experienced time triallists chasing the overall honours to riders setting personal bests, progressing through the average speed levels or taking part in their first event, every rider contributed to what has been a fantastic league.
A huge thank you must go to Great Yarmouth Cycling Club and all the volunteers who gave their time throughout the series. The league simply could not happen without the people helping with sign-on, timekeeping, marshalling, pushing riders off and supporting each round.

During the evening, we will present the overall and category prizes, league trophies and average speed level certificates.
Whether you raced all six rounds, joined us for a single event, volunteered, came along to support or would like to join us in celebrating very rider, we would love you to join us as we celebrate this year’s league and everyone who helped make it such a success.

How Countback Works
When riders finish level on points, the following countback order is used:
All six rounds: If every tied rider completed all six rounds, their dropped score is reinstated and totals are compared across all six events.
Personal bests: The rider with the most PBs is placed highest.
Average speed progression: If PBs are equal, the number of average speed levels progressed through is compared, not the highest level reached.
Average speed: If riders still cannot be separated, their average speed across every round completed is used.
If not every tied rider completed all six rounds, countback begins with personal bests. If all tied riders completed only one round, average speed is used.
These rules reflect what the Speed League rewards: participation, consistency and improvement, alongside speed. Outright speed matters, but it is not always the deciding factor.
